Delivering beyond possible solutions

Our ProductsWollastonite

Wollastonite is a calcium silicate mineral with the molecular formula CaSiO₃. It is sometimes used for its buffering effect in acidic solutions due to the release of calcium ions. It offers moderate hardness, high dry brightness, and improved corrosion and blistering resistance.

Chemical Structure & Composition

  • Chemical Formula: CaSiO₃ (Calcium Silicate)
  • Crystal system: Triclinic or monoclinic, needle-like (acicular) structure
  • Often contains small amounts of Fe, Mg, Mn, or Al as natural impurities.

Key Properties

  • Acicular (needle-like) morphology – provides reinforcement properties
  • High aspect ratio
  • High whiteness
  • Low thermal expansion
  • Good thermal stability – stable up to ~1125°C
  • Non-hygroscopic
  • Chemically inert
  • Non-toxic
  • Low loss on ignition (LOI)

Industrial Applications

Industry Application
Plastics & Polymers Reinforcing filler in PP, nylon, and thermoplastics to enhance mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and reduce warpage.
Paints & Coatings Improves durability, corrosion resistance, and reduces gloss in architectural and industrial coatings.
Ceramics Flux and filler to reduce firing temperatures, improve strength, and reduce shrinkage.
Rubber Reinforcement agent for better tensile strength, tear resistance, and compression set.
Metallurgy Used as a fluxing agent in steel production to remove impurities.
Friction Products Ingredient in brake pads and clutch linings due to its heat resistance and dimensional stability.
Construction Filler in cement, tiles, wallboards, and fireproof panels.
Adhesives & Sealants Improves thixotropy, strength, and resistance to cracking.

Functional Benefits

  • Reinforcement – enhances mechanical strength and stiffness
  • Dimensional stability – low shrinkage and warping in plastics
  • Thermal stability – ideal for high-temperature applications
  • Improved surface finish – in plastics and coatings
  • Anti-cracking & anti-warping – particularly in ceramics and polymers
  • Reduces water absorption – useful in construction applications
  • Lightweight – compared to some other mineral fillers
